We offer you a new thematic issue of the Russian Psychiatric Journal (2025, No. 1), dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of people with mental disorders caused by severe stress, including post-traumatic stress disorder. The issue contains reports on historical and modern concepts of the problem of combat mental pathology, as well as clinical and organizational features of psychiatric care during local wars and armed conflicts of recent decades. The results of neuroscientific research in the field of studying the pathogenesis of combat mental pathology are discussed, the possibility of using innovative approaches in the complex therapy of stress-associated disorders in combatants is shown – transcranial magnetic stimulation, methods of desensitization and processing of stressful experiences by eye movement and multimodular desensitization and reconsolidation of memory using movement, methods of VR therapy, daylight therapy, etc. The issues of forming treatment adherence in post-traumatic stress disorder and comorbid drug addiction disorders are considered. Special attention is paid to the description of the practical experience of a medical psychologist in the outpatient unit of the medical and psychological counseling office for participants in a special military operation and their family members.
