This scientific review pursues the objective of familiarizing specialists with the psychophysiological approaches to polygraph use in diagnosing paraphilic disorders, assessing social dangerousness, and monitoring sex offenders. We briefly elucidate the historical aspects of using polygraph testing in the practice of criminalistics and sexology, submitting a detailed description of techniques used in the US, Great Britain, and Russia. We provide substantiation for the necessity of using the polygraph within the framework of sex offender therapy and supervision following their release. We deliberate on the challenges faced by the polygraph specialists, including the legislative ones.
