Abstract

We have examined 96 respondents in this empirical study with the objective of researching the dynamics of changes in the cognitive decision-making process in the formation of patterns of dependent alcohol consumption. 25 persons constituted the control group, 21 persons belonged to the risk group (episodic alcohol users) and 50 patients with alcohol use disorders. To quantify the decision-making parameters, the Go/NoGo test, the balloon analog risk task, Cambridge gambling task and the Iowa gambling task were used. It was found that as alcohol addiction develops, various decision-making parameters (executive functions, risk-taking, emotional learning (intuition), logic and decision-making time) deteriorate significantly. It was also revealed that the deterioration of cognitive decision-making processes is directly related to the increase in the frequency and amount of alcohol consumption.
