Abstract

In this scientific review, with the aim of studying literature data on various aspects of borderline personality disorder as ways to understand antisocial and illegal behavior in cases of this disorder and improving its forensic psychiatric assessment, an analysis of domestic and foreign selected literature sources over a 100-year period is presented; data on historical milestones in the formation of the concept and etiology of borderline personality disorder (constitutional, psychoanalytic, social, neurobiological and systemic approaches), as well as diagnostic criteria in ICD-10, ICD-11, DSM-5 are provided; and the issues of differential diagnosis (largely controversial), mechanisms of criminalization of behavior, prediction of social dangerousness and forensic psychiatric approaches to this disorder are considered.

Keywords borderline personality disorder; clinical and social disorders; mental self-regulation; causal relationships; antisocial behavior; forensic approaches
