In a single-stage retrospective study, 165 patients (132 women, 33 men, average age 53.5±10.7 years) were examined to study the personality characteristics of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus using psychological tests, as well as to assess their relationship with glycemic control, mental and somatic disorders. The level of glycated hemoglobin (HbAc1) was determined in 163 of them. The medical records of 71 patients were additionally examined to identify complications of diabetes and concomitant diseases. As a result, 96 (58.2%) patients were diagnosed with anxiety and depressive disorders. 52 (73.2%) had coronary heart disease, a history of myocardial infarction and stroke, retinopathy, macular edema, chronic kidney disease, and polyneuropathy. A significant association of some personality parameters with the studied clinical characteristics of diabetes has been found. It is important in view of psychotherapeutic support for such patients. However, the low diagnostic specificity of the selected parameters indicates that the questionnaires used can identify only a part of the personality factors associated with the clinic of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
