Epidemiological characteristics of suicidal behavior of minors in Zabaikalsky Krai based on data from standardized monitoring of self-harm

In this cross-sectional observational study of a descriptive type, based on the study of archival data and reporting forms of the Center for Monitoring Acts of Self-Harm in the Zabaikalsky Krai, in order to analyze the indicators and main epidemiological characteristics of suicidal behavior in children and adolescents in the Zabaikalsky Krai, data obtained during the WHO standardized monitoring of self-harming behavior were recorded. The optimization of the collection of information on suicide attempts that took place in Zabaikalsky Krai in 2019, the number of identified acts of self-harm in minors has increased 1.8 times over the past 5 years. Among juvenile suicides, teenage girls predominate; the leading methods are self-cutting (66.4%) and self-poisoning (18.7%). The structure of diagnoses is dominated by emotional disorders and behavioral disorders that begin in childhood and adolescence (61.4%); schizophrenia, schizotypal and delusional disorders (9.9%); mental retardation (8.2%), disorders of adaptive reactions (7.1%). Optimizing the monitoring of suicidal behavior in Zabaikalsky Krai made it possible to determine in detail the epidemiological features of suicides and suicide attempts among minors, as well as to organize the work of interested departments on prevention and provision of necessary assistance to children and adolescents.
