In a scientific article, in order to consider mental disorders that become widespread during periods of socio-economic and political crises, a review of Russian and foreign literature on this topic was carried out. The most characteristic mass mental consequences of “social stress” that develop in combatants after their return to civilian life, in refugees during the period of adaptation in the host country, as well as in the population during the COVID-19 pandemic, united under the concept of social stress disorders, are presented. It was revealed that low demand for psychological and psychiatric help due to a tendency to devalue existing problems, stigmatization of psychiatry, insufficient rehabilitation and reintegration programs create significant difficulties in organizing specialized medical care, which negatively affects the mental health of the population.
