In this single-stage retrospective study for the purpose of a differentiated study of the formal-dynamic and structural-meaningful characteristics of personality relevant to the processes of mental self-regulation, 54 criminal defendants were examined, divided into 3 groups: persons with personality disorders (22 people), schizotypal personality disorder (8 people), paranoid schizophrenia (24 people), and also, 11 mentally healthy volunteers. As a result of the study of temperamental characteristics in people with PD, a decrease in the speed and energy characteristics of probabilistic intellectual activity was found, which cause a deficiency in the operational and technical level of activity regulation. Qualitative differences were also found in the structure of the motivational and semantic sphere of people with PD and schizophrenia spectrum disorders. In PD, it is characterized by semantic lability and insufficient hierarchization of the semantic sphere, in schizophrenia spectrum disorders – by rigidity and fragmentation. These features create prerequisites for a distorted assessment of a legally significant situation by persons with PD, the formation of its pathological meaning, and consequently, an impairment of the semantic level of self-regulation.
