Abstract

In this cross-sectional observational study to study the influence of psychopathological and personality factors on glycemic control in patients with diabetes mellitus, 80 patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and 56 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) were examined. In the T1DM group, 41 (51.3%) patients had mental disorders, while in the T2DM group, there were 43 (76.8%) such patients. The study showed that anxiety and depressive disorders can have a significant impact on glycemic control. Apparently, this impact is indirect through changes in the cognitive-semantic sphere. At the same time, the main characterological personality types do not have such an impact. It was found that the determining role in the psychological control of glycemia in T1DM and T2DM is played by different cognitive-semantic attitudes. These attitudes were identified and described as a result of statistical analysis of patients’ responses to Young’s questionnaire.
