Compliance and cognitive functioning in patients with first episode schizophrenia

This cross-sectional observational study looked at the characteristics of cognitive functioning and compliance in patients with the first episode of schizophrenia. We have found the relationship between the severity of neurocognitive deficiency and adherence to therapy. Patients with greater degree of intactness of their executive functions and auditory and speech memory were characterized by the higher level of compliance. Patients with pronounced decline in cognitive functioning constitute the risk group in terms of not adhering to the regimen of their medication therapy.
