In this scientific review examining the current state of psychosocial therapy for schizophrenia, we present a vision of how treatment has evolved over the past few years. This paper describes the way in which we can define treatments, as well as the phases into which psychosocial therapy research can be divided on the basis of the fundamental issues being addressed. In addition, we highlight the importance of combining pharmacological treatment with psychosocial approaches such as cognitive therapy when dealing with patients.
