Clinical features, personality and cognitive-style characteristics of patients with anxiety disorders

A differentiated assessment of anxiety disorders remains one of the topical problems of borderline psychiatry. The study of cognitive mechanisms of anxiety disorders can contribute to the refinement of their diagnostic and prognostic criteria, as well as to the development of the recommendations for differentiated therapy. The aim of the study was to describe the patterns of personality and cognitive functioning of patients with various clinical forms of pathological anxiety: panic disorder, agoraphobia, generalized anxiety disorder. In the course of the work, the results of the clinical evaluation according to the criteria of ICD-10 were compared with the data obtained with the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory and the Repertoire Matrix Test. It shows the unique relationship between the clinical, behavioral and cognitive-style characteristics of anxiety disorders, while sampling data at one particular point in time, well as in the course of comprehensive therapy over the course of 3 months. The dynamic evaluation of these interrelations significantly expands the notion of the psychopathological nature of anxiety disorders, the aims of therapy and the processes by which the therapeutic effect is achieved.
