Abstract

The Sexual Behaviours Clinic (SBC) at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre in Ottawa, Canada, is the primary clinic in Eastern Ontario for assessment and treatment of problematic sexual behaviours in adolescents and adults. The clinic assesses and treats people with both criminal and non-criminal sexual interests and behaviours. In 2015, the SBC was unanimously selected to receive the American Psychiatric Association’s prestigious “Gold Award” for a program of clinical and academic excellence. This paper provides an overview of the SBC and the work being done in the assessment laboratory. Clinical assessment measures, including measurement of arousal with the penile plethysmograph, are reviewed. The labs innovative assessment techniques, clinical research initiatives, and international collaborations are also discussed.
