The scientific review summarizes the results of foreign and domestic empirical studies devoted to the problem of ensuring road safety and assessing the reliability of the driver to solve the problems of substantiating the model of medical and psychological prevention of road traffic injuries. Psychophysiological factors of safe and high-risk behavior of the driver are described. The conclusion has been made that there is a need to identify predictors of a propensity for decompensation and risky behavior on the roads of drivers, an early assessment of the driver's fatigue behind the wheel; to design the training programs aimed at developing the decision-making skills in road traffic situations, and training programs for the prevention of psychoemotional dysfunction among drivers of vehicles; to develop and implement the systems of assessment of the current state of the driver behind the wheel.
