Abstract

Psychiatric training in Canada is similar to other countries. After 4 years of medical school, trainees do 5 years of residency covering all major areas of psychiatry across the lifespan. Options exist for sub-specialty training in forensic psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry and child & adolescent psychiatry.
The current training system is set to change to “competency based” education in 2019 for psychiatry residents.
