We submit a new method for diagnosing pathological craving for psychoactive substances in persons with severe mental disorders. The technique consists of showing the original visual diagnostic test to patients, alongside the use of the Gazepoint Control eye-tracker. Orientation and studying eye movements are then assessed by means of registering the three parameters with the subsequent expert-metric analysis of the obtained data. Assessment of the presence of pathological craving in a patient is carried out through the regression equation (discriminant function). Applying the proposed technique would contribute to improving accuracy, objectivization of the clinical diagnosis, and predicting the likelihood of socially dangerous behavior of mental patients; as the risk factors for such behavior include addiction disorders.
