In a prospective study, a group of day hospital patients with paranoid schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder was assessed with clinical (PANSS, CDSS, AES-S and AES-C) scales, and the Hinting Task and RAD-15 before and after metacognitive training (MCT). The results show an improvement in social cognitive functions in both Theory of mind and Social perception domains. The severity of apathy assessed by the clinician on the AES-C scale decreased, while no changes were registered in the patients' self-assessment of apathy on the AES-S scale. We conclude that MCT as a part of complex treatment results in an overall stabilization of symptoms of a psychiatric disorder, positively influences on social cognition in domains of Theory of mind and Social perception, reduces apathy symptoms load.
