In a cross-sectional study to determine the resting EEG profile of atypical depression, a pattern was identified that distinguishes patients with atypical depression (AD) from healthy patients (N) and patients with depression without atypical features (TD) with recurrent depressive (RD) and bipolar II types (BD) disorders. The AD profile included measures of interhemispheric imaginary beta-2-coherence (β-2-ICoh): 1) between the frontal (F3–F4) and 2) between the left frontal and right central (F3–C4) leads. In mixed diagnostic groups both parametres: AD>TD>N. With BD: AD=TD, AD>N. When RD: AD>TD, AD>N. β-2-ICoh (F3–F4) correlated with suicidal thinking (C-SSRS, HDRS, point 3) in the number of autoaggressive behaviors, was higher in people with borderline disorder. β-2-ICoh (F3–C4) inversely correlated with anhedonia (SHAPS), was higher in individuals with early developmental disorders (D II), hereditary burden of personality disorders.
