Abstract

This empirical study, pursuing the objective of providing the qualitative description of psychopathological symptoms in adolescents who had committed armed assault in educational institutions in Russian Federation, submits the results of combined psychological and psychiatric assessment of 13 minors. This article includes the analysis of publications on the problem and the description of the main nosological forms of mental disorders in minors, also noting the stages in their development and the conjunction of clinical manifestations with developmental crises. The authors conclude that there is a multifactorial genesis of mental and behavioral disorders in adolescents who have committed armed attacks on educational institutions, and point out the special importance of the popular Internet community of “Columbine copycats” in the implementation of criminal aggressive actions.
