In a single-stage case-control study the association between the levels of tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4) and folates in the blood serum of patients with schizophrenia was evaluated. We examined 93 patients with schizophrenia and 60 healthy volunteers. The levels of BH4 were measured using the method of competitive enzyme immunoassay (ELISA) on a spectrophotometer (Voskhod, Tecan) using a set of CEG421Ge (AMP clone cloud), the levels of folates were measured using the method of immunoassay of chemiluminescent microparticles of SMVD (Architect, Abbott Laboratories.Sec.A). The levels of BH4 (z=–5,34193; p=0,000000) and folates (z=–3,46712; p=0,000526) in patients were statistically significantly lower than in the controls. In the group of patients, a statistically significant direct moderate correlation of BH4 with folate levels was revealed (ρ=0,48; p=0,000001).
