Abstract

In an open-label prospective, comparative, non-randomized study, pursuing the objective of identifying the diagnostically significant parameters of psychosomatic disorders in individuals with functional and organic heart rhythm disorders from the standpoint of an interdisciplinary approach (cardiologist/psychiatrist), we have examined 96 patients of a cardiological inpatient facility. In 43 patients (44.8%) we have diagnosed the presence of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia without current mental disorders, in 36 patients (37.5%) palpitations were due to sinus tachycardia within the framework of the syndrome of somatoform dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system, and in 17 patients (17.7%) we have found supraventricular tachycardia with comorbid mental disorders. Each of the above-said variants corresponds to a certain clinical model of somatic illness/mental disorder, which is taken into account while providing substantiation for the priority therapeutic and diagnostic tactics.

Keywords supraventricular tachycardia; somatoform dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system; comorbid panic disorders; differential diagnosis
