A clinical case of multiple disorders of sexual preference on the example of Gilles de Rais as a possible prototype of Bluebeard

In order to describe a clinical case based on a scientific review, an analysis of the mental state and sexual crimes of Marshal of France Gilles de Rais is given. Various sources are analyzed, including the minutes of court sessions of the XV century, systematized by the French sociologist G. Batailles. It shows the life path of Gilles de Rais, his participation in the Hundred Years' War, as well as the actions that eventually led him to trial and execution. It is concluded that the crimes against children committed by baron de Rais were caused by certain paraphilic disorders, aggravated by the peculiarities of his character and by the psychology of the aristocracy of the Middle Ages.
