В научном обзоре обсуждаются подходы, с использованием которых сотрудники кафедры судебной психиатрии Оттавского университета, Клиники полового поведения и Интегрированной судебно-экспертной программы Королевского оттавского центра психического здоровья попытались провести категоризацию и объяснить необычное и проблемное половое поведение. В частности, авторы считают, что используемая в настоящее время парадигма «карт любви» исчерпала свои возможности для объяснения полученных данных, точного предсказания результатов будущих исследований и содействия проведению эффективного лечения.
