In this epidemiological study, in order to determine the relationship between the indicators of the detectability of mental disorders and the dynamics of the COVID-19 pandemic process in Russia, data from the Federal State Statistics Service – form No. 10 “Information on diseases with mental disorders and behavioral disorders (except for diseases associated with the use of psychoactive substances)” were selected, statistics of the Northwestern and Southern Federal Districts, as well as the whole of Russia for 2017–2021 were analyzed. To assess the potential impact of the COVID-19 factor on the population statistics of mental disorders, open data on the detection, morbidity, mortality and lethality from COVID-19 in the studied regions were used. Significant changes in the prevalence of primary mental disorders were revealed when comparing data before the COVID-19 pandemic and in 2020–2021. It is shown that the psychiatric consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, apparently, have a significant age specificity with the most negative and pronounced effect on persons 15–19 years of age.
