Abstract

The author has studied and statistically analyzed the case histories of 296 deceased schizophrenic patients in the archives of psychiatric hospitals in Moscow, covering the period from 2007 to 2013. He describes the somatic morbidity rate at the time of hospital admission, causes of death and age-related characteristics of mortality in schizophrenic patients. It is demonstrated that the most common somatic disorders that lead to death of schizophrenic patients refer to the class of diseases that involve the circulatory system, respiratory diseases and malignant tumors.
